Comments Really enjoyed our 11 night stay. Very happy with all; diving, resort, grubb, island tours and health. Went to Fiji in 2001 (first dives with film camera) the soft coral in this part of Fiji is still extremely healthy. After 9+ years as an instructor in STX USVI, I watched the hard coral die off every year. This area is as healthy as is possible. This is all drift diving and likely the nutrient rich currents from depth are responsible in part for the health. If you like schooling fish and soft coral gardens then this is the spot for you. This is a video collage of a few hundred pics. The video is oversaturated and no audio but I will fix that [youtube.com link].
One of the owners is a chef and the cuisine was unparalleled (especially considering how remote this island is). He is very creative with local foods. The Fiji night is almost all local food and there are cultural experiences in every aspect of the stay. Land excursions were touristy but enjoyable. The date line actually cuts through the island so you can stop at the tourist monument for a kiss in two days. Don't miss the pearl farm on the other side of the island. The resort was as expected.
Only real negatives. They have an air conditioned camera room but it closes early, like 7 pm, so I used my room every night (also air conditioned). The hardest part of the trip was that the boat left at 7 am most mornings which meant 530 to 6 am rise for breakfast, bathroom and gear check. But the tradeoff was earlier days. The white wall has a lot of hype and you should schedule your trip during the window of days they dive it. The prettiest part is at depth and we really didn't get to fully experience it. However there is a bombie (coral head) at the end of the dive which I would be happy to do a full hour on. It is the healthiest and most prolific soft coral encrusted spot I have ever seen. My video has many shots taken there. Cabbage patch is one of the most unique hard coral dives I have ever seen. Also a few pics in the video. You don't want to miss it if you have any interest in coral (how can you be a diver and not like HEALTHY coral)? My BC sheared off the back plate on day 3 during a beach dive. It took 3 rental bc and finally moving my inflator off my jacket to their rental to get a jacket not auto inflating. Therefore, I cannot recommend there rental gear. I made due with a combo of integrated on the rental and weight belt to manage my dives. I'm an instructor with 2,500+ dives but a newer diver would have been thrown off by the issue. Otherwise, the O2 looked good and boat safety seemed adequate. This is the leeward side of the island so there is very little action and the boats are modest for the conditions. Second to last day the winds shifted and we dove the south end and got extremely wet steaming back to the resort after dives. the boats aren't designed for real seas. Overall, definitely recommend and would be happy to go back to this gem in the Pacific.

UW Photo Comments Very small boats but had rinse tank (small). I used dive deck with towel. bouncy boats but leeward and pretty calm. Facilities at resort are everything you need. Camera room had bad hours so I changed lenses, ports, charged, etc in my room. They are all air conditioned rooms. Overall the soft coral is unbelievable. Split water easy with leeward. Lots of macro too. Bring all lenses and ports.
