I was traveling to Fiji for work (really) with two colleagues, one was a very experienced diver and the other one had just gotten certified in anticipation of this trip. Scuba Bula could not have been a better choice. Scuba Sam and the rest of the team allowed us experienced divers the flexibility to enjoy our dives without stressing the new diver, and gave the new diver the attention he needed to feel comfortable. This is a wonderful group to dive with, they run a safe and friendly operation. This is not a fancy facility. In fact, when we were there in March it was in the middle of a construction zone. The Seashells hotel has been torn down and a Novotel is under construction. We had to trek across the construction site to get to the shop. They don't have a dock, so when the tide is low you need to trudge out to the boats with your gear, with help from the staff. This is expected to change when the new hotel is completed. We stayed at the Marriott Momi Bay, about a 5 minute drive from the dive shop (be aware, if you arrange your diving through the Marriott, it is not with Scuba Bula, unless they have a new agreement since we were there). Their website is in serious need of updating but they do respond to emails and we were able to arrange everything in advance of our arrival. All diving is off the reef that is about a ten minute boat ride from the shop. The Scuba Bula team mapped all the sites and knows them intimately. The coral was healthy and the fish life relatively abundant. We saw turtles, a few sharks, and lots of reef fish. There were swim throughs and lots of interesting formations. If you are looking for a friendly, safe, and attentive dive operation in healthy waters on the west side of the island, these are your guys. |
