Comments The diving in the Somosomo Strait was amazing. The reefs are in outstanding condition. We regularly saw nudibranchs, reef sharks, lionfish, blue ribbon eels, banded sea snakes, scorpionfish and, of course, the beautiful soft corals for which Fiji is famous. Swiss Fiji Divers was very organized and accommodating. There was a high ratio of divemasters to divers (~3 divemasters for 4-6 divers). This allowed them to assign divemasters to differently skilled divers and not overly restrict more experience divers. Our only complaint was that they were resistant to take us to the Great White Wall due to conditions. We later dived that site with another dive shop (Jewel Bubble Divers, just down the beach from Swiss Fiji) who indicated the conditions had been excellent all week. We suspect Swiss Fiji was reluctant to make the longer trip with divers of different skill levels at a deep site with fairly strong currents. Swiss Fiji has a policy of ascending at 1000 psi but does not really enforce it.

We were very pleased with Maravu Plantation Resort. We stayed in a Deluxe Honeymoon Bure, which was clean and very nice. The bures are located on the hillside overlooking the strait, but most have partial ocean views. The grounds are lush and well-maintained. The beach is somewhat rocky and is about a 3 minute walk across the road. We made especially good use of the waterfall jacuzzi and outdoor shower attached to our bure. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and they have a good variety of activities, but the bicycles are in need of repair or replacement. The best thing about Maravu is probably the food. Maravu provides very good three course meals with three main offerings (one of which is always vegetarian) and menu offerings are not repeated within a week. The massages at the spa are also very good. We also enjoyed the pool, which is surrounded by nice lounge chairs and umbrellas.
