Comments We really liked Taveuni Dive Resort. It is built by divers, for divers. The diving on the Rainbow Reef is spectacular, and this is the 5th Fijian island that I have dived in the past few years. The dive boats are good, as is the dive staff. The boats were not filled to capacity which was nice. It would be a little tight if they were. We had a large family diving with us for 3 days, then we had the boat to ourselves for the last 2 days (except for 2 snorkelers who don't take up much room). I had to ask for a camera bucket but other than that, everything was very together. I used nitrox ($15 US per tank) and it was always at about 32% and filled to 3200 so that made for long dives. They had snacks and hot drinks during the surface stop, they had drinking water with cups, but we brought our own bottles. It was rainier than expected and a little chilly, so I was glad to have a long sleeved shirt between dives and we both used a 5 mm long wetsuit. The dive master was diving in his board shorts and others wore 3 mm long suits. I'd rather be warm than cold. We brought our own gear. They set it up but I had to always check to be sure I had the correct weights in my pockets because that seemed to vary each day. The resort has wonderful bures, great beds, all 8 are identical, and the restaurant and bar are very good. The staff on ground and in the water were terrific and the owners had dinner there each night, so we were able to talk to them as often as we wished. They had a lovo feast one evening for the Fiji Kava experience and it was very homey and fun.

The hot water is solar and it was luke warm for several days because we had quite a bit of rain. There should be another way to provide hot water to the rooms since that is such a rainy island. They said there was a reserve tank or something, but we didn't benefit from that. That was the only issue. When we go back I'll bring my own bath towel since you only get one per person and I need two due to having long hair to dry and no hair dryers.

I think it is a great resort for the price and excellent for seasoned divers. I got into trouble one afternoon due to the currents and it was a sobering experience. But 5 stars for this resort and 10 stars for the diving.
