Comments I tried to come up with a great dive trip that my non-diving wife would also enjoy. Having read on Undercurrent about diving from the Paul Gauguin some years ago, I decided to give it a try. Great choice! I wanted to see sharks and did I. After the first 90 seconds in the water I stopped counting the plentiful, big grey reef sharks. I saw over 200 in all! Also, saw a few white tips and black tips. Massive schools of jacks, surgeon fish, unicorns, butterflies, etc. Our seven day trip included stops at Fakarava and Rangiora. We had great tide conditions at both locations and rode them through the atoll passes. Overall, very good shark diving!
The Gauguin alone could get a separate review. The on board dive shop was first rate, with good rental equipment and helpful staff. We really enjoyed the food, staterooms and service. Excursions (diving) where very reasonably priced. Also the ship only has 350 guests on board so getting off and on was easy. Diet before you go!
