Comments I've been diving for nearly 20 years, in such places as the Maldives, most of the Caribbean, Costa Rica, Hawaii, Mexico (both coasts) and Indonesia. Rangiroa offered by far the best diving. That is, if you are properly certified (PADI Advanced isn't good enough). This is high octane diving featuring insane numbers of fish, healthy corals and sharks galore. Oh and the Dolphins. The most polite dolphins on the planet, they seem to go out of their way to greet each and every diver each and every day. If you are lucky, they might even stop by to say hi if you hang out in the blue at 60 feet. Amazing! Six passengers is an ideal operation; they have small boats and they divide divers by skill level. We visited other surrounding islands, but returned to Rangiroa. The hotel was overpriced but OK, apparently they are renovating now. The island itself is worth biking around. But diving is the focus.
