Comments The trip was great. Aqua-Mundo took great care of us. Plongee Aqua-Mundo's Carlos is from the Galapagos, so he knows all the ins and outs. The logistics of getting there and doing the trip we did with an itinerary packed with great diving and some exciting land based activities would have been mind boggling to take this upon myself to organize it all. Carlos and his right hand man Eddy took care of all the details so all that was left to do was to have fun and enjoy. Besides the great diving, the trip was unique because we got to experience 3 different islands, Isabella, Santa Cruz & San Cristobal first hand. Something a live-aboard just cannot offer. The food was great and reasonably priced considering. The resorts we stayed in were nice.
Now the juicy part ... the diving! It was amazing! While the visibility was not crystal clear, and the corals aren't as lush as some other destinations, it is all about the sea life. Schools of sharks, rays, sea turtles, seals are just the beginning. I swam in a bait ball for the first time. I was many times overwhelmed by all he marine life . I couldn't decide whether to focus on the hammerheads swimming by me, or the school of spotted eagle rays ... it was pure joy! Crazy amazing!
Now for the nuts and bolts aspect of the diving here, the water is cooler, this by Canadian standards, many warm water divers would find it cold. Most dive shops provide complete scuba equipment rentals but if like me, you like to dive your own gear, I suggest taking a comprehensive save-a-dive kit as equipment is difficult to purchase . There is current, like you cannot swim back to the dive boat once you enter the water current. I recommend a snorkel, I usually never wear one but here, techies need to swallow their pride and dive like the locals do. They know it best.
If there is a downside, I would say that since we were staying in resorts that were not necessarily geared for divers, they lacked amenities like dive lockers. But they bent over backwards to meet our needs.
