Comments Spent a week at Sandals Grenada with my diving wife. This was not planned a dive trip but a beach/ resort vacation. My wife had indicated beforehand that she might not dive more than twice if the diving wasn't good. We wound up going on 6 two tank dives. The diving in Grenada isn't what you would call epic but it's very good. Lots of coral and critters. Good biomass on the reefs and wrecks and clear, warm water. There was one reef shark spotted and one nurse shark. Also, one Eagle Ray and one really large barracuda. Those were the big ticket sightings of the week. Most of the diving is looking at the large schools of fish and small stuff hiding in the coral. There are also a bunch of wrecks at various sizes and depth that made the diving interesting.
Sandals diving is included in the All-Inclusive package so we didn't have real high expectations. We had dove with them in Antigua and had a good experience but we weren't counting on it again. We were wrong. They run the morning two dives for certified divers. The boat ride to most of the site was 10 minutes or less. The boat was a catamaran style dive boat which makes it wider and more stable than a Newton. The most we had on any trip was 18 divers which the boat could easily handle. Divemasters had no more than 8 divers in a group and were divided by skill level. The Open Water divers would be dropped first at a shallower site. Then the more advanced divers would be taken to a nearby deeper site. The boat would not be anchored but would follow dive floats and pick up the groups when they surfaced. All safety briefings and procedures as well as a careful roll call were followed on every dive. One nice thing that Sandals does is to provide food and refreshments between the dives. Sandwiches, fresh fruit and muffins were available during the surface interval. A really nice touch. Getting on the dive list was as simple as signing up after the morning dives for the next day. The resort also runs certification programs for new divers. They go out in the afternoon dive. There is also a boat in the morning that goes out with snorkelers and there is SNUBA available from the shore. Snorkeling in the coves of the resort is pretty good. Lots of fish to see in and among the rocks. there is also a resident school of Reef Squid that comes in every day to feed.
A really good place to go diving.
