Comments We stayed in a comfortable bungalow in a beautifully peaceful garden a stone’s throw from the dive shop on Terre-de-Haut. There are no cars on the island - walk or get a golf cart, very tranquil, good bakeries and restaurants. Small dive shop on the beach, dive boat moored off the beach, wade out and throw your gear on board, max of maybe 8 divers on the boat. We did 6 dives. Canyons, overhangs and boulders with colorful soft corals, sponges and good diversity of reef fish around small islands of Les Augustines; sand, Caulerpa and slope with boulders off Pain de Sucre with yellow-headed jawfish, seahorse, anemones, sharptail eels, molluscs, macrophoto opportunities; Pointe a Cabrit with huge rocky boulders, caves and overhangs, covered in sponges, soft corals, schools of reef fish; and the (at least locally) famous Sec Pate, a pinnacle in the channel between Les Saintes and Guadeloupe, dived only under good conditions - we had virtually no current, dive leader Amelie took us down a ‘chimney’ at 32 m lined with black coral and sponges and another at 25 m. This underwater mountain was stunning, canyons and walls covered with huge barrel sponges, tubular sponges, fan corals, many fish including large snapper, black durgon, butterflyfish, frequent turtles, jacks. Overall, the diving was varied, beautiful, and the location and dive shop relaxed and peaceful, definitely a place to visit again, only slight downside was infrequency of night dives, about once a week, but they just don’t seem that popular in Guadeloupe, perhaps because the evenings are better spent enjoying the food and wine…
