Comments Alami Alor was the first stop on our three stop Indonesia dive adventure. You can also check out my reviews of Villa Markisa and Menjangan Dynasty in the reader reports.

Intra Indonesia airline schedules are fluid to say the least. Flights were added, cancelled and times changed several times within two weeks of our trip. We flew into Denpasar and stayed the night after our long trip from the east coast. To get to Alor we had to go first to Kupang and overnight again as the only flight to Alor leaves at 8:30 am.

Once you arrive in Alor it is a 45 minute drive to the resort.

The seven bungalows at Alami Alor are identical. They are on the waterfront with a front porch, large bedroom with ample closet space, and an outdoor bathroom with a covered area holding the sink and toilet and a true open-air shower.

Meals are served at the communal table in the main building. Breakfast is a choice of various western and Indonesian staples. Lunch and dinner options are based on a set weekly menu. We had chicken, beef, tuna and prawns as main courses with various vegetable and rice dishes as sides. My wife who is allergic to seafood was offered tempeh or tofu as a substitute for the six meals where fish or shrimp was served. We were disappointed that there was not more of an accommodation for her allergy.

The resort has a maximum capacity of twelve divers and there are two boats to accommodate. Our group of four was joined by another couple for the first five days of the trip and thereafter we had the boat to ourselves. There were two dive guides on the boat for the entirety of our trip.

Diving is usually a two tank morning trip out to the reefs in the channel and then a muck dive in the afternoon in the bay. We did decide to do a full day of muck diving too. The house reef is also available whenever you want and is a beautiful site.

The corals in Alor are fantastic and may be the best we have ever seen consistently at various sites. The reason for the great coral is that the water temperature is on the cold side, depending on the site. There are also dives with a lot of current.

The amount of photo/video subjects in the water made for some full memory cards and the dive guides are excellent spotters.

I would warn beginner divers that Alor is probably not the place for them until they get some experience in cold and currents. There were some guests that joined late in our stay that came all the way from the U.S., had less than 20 dives under their belt and decided to not dive the reefs after their first day there.

The entire staff of about 30 were great. Max and Rhomie who run the resort are always more than helpful and share meals with the guests.
