Comments This was a potentially interesting itinerary as we treaveled from Sorong thru Misool, on to Koon Island, Manuk, and other sites in the Banda Sea, ending up in Alor and Maumere. Unfortunately, the right season for this trip, if you want to see schooling hammerheads and other pelagics, is in the fall. Also unfortunately someone brought aboard a cold or flu, which I caught. (We were required to take a Covid test prior to boarding). After the first four days, my diving was over. So I will mainly comment on the boat itself.

Before I do, though, the diving was pretty nice. At Nudi Rock in Misool, we saw a grey reef shark and lots of reef fish. And Koon Island was beautiful, nice corals and several turtles on our dives. Bumphead Parrotfish were abundant, but deeper than our group went.

The steel-hulled Blue Manta was excellent. Cabins were spacious (though some had an unpleasant odor for the first few days), there was a roomy camera room with lots of charging outlets, and it opened onto the dive deck. Gearing up was easy thanks to a thoughful layout astern, and getting onto the pangas was usually simple. The dive guides and crew were friendly and always helpful. The cruise director was super friendly and accomodating.

No reservations at all about returning to this dive boat!

UW Photo Comments Terrific facilities for UWPs. Very spacious and well-located camera room; we each had a nice, well-stocked spot to work at. Cameras were handled carefully and well by the crew.
