Comments Did a 10 day liveaboard on the Damai 2 from Sorong. The food, diving, most of the crew and accommodations were great. The currents are strong and marine life is incredible. However, I had an issue with one paticular dive guide. He would race from one reef/coral head to another, tap me to follow him when I was taking photos to see something else and left me to surface alone in a heavy boat traffic area while he explored a reef on his own.
I asked the cruise director Silven, not to assign him to me anymore. He agreed after some condensention about how Adri was his best guide. The other guides were wonderful.
I thought the issue was settled until the last 1 1/2 days they again assigned him to me. I thought maybe he will be different, but no.
To make a long story short, I contacted the owner, Alberto. Mind you this is not a cheap operation. A 10 day trip is $6200 plus tips, airfares, hotels, etc.
Alberto was worse in his response than the cruise director. I believe sexism played a role in their responses and therefore would not recommend this operation. I am so sad that a few jerks made what was otherwise a trip of a lifetime end on such a downside.
Do go to Raja Ampat, but take care on who you sign up with.
