Comments I was on a 10-day trip that started in Triton Bay and ended in the Banda Sea. I would first like to say the crew on Damai 1 was very accommodating and took extremely good care of everybody in our group.

The Good
The DIVING
We enjoyed a day of diving with whale sharks the first day and this set the level of expectation. It was amazing to be so close to these gentle giants. All of our dives had amazingly healthy coral and plentiful fish life. We got to enjoy muck diving, walls, slopes, and pinnacles. The water was a little colder than Raja(subsequent trip) but we had great visibility on 90% of our dives.
The crew
The crew took incredible care of everybody. They cater to everything you can ask for. There were 3 massages available each day. The crew helps you into your wetsuit and then out of it for each dive and they rinse it and hang it for drying.
The Food
The food was excellent. Both a meat-based and a vegetarian option were available for every meal. If you didn't like what was offered, you could order something custom for each meal. The amount of food was very plentiful, I ate half portions for the week and was very satisfied.

The Boat
The boat needs maintenance. If you sat down in the toilet, the cockroaches would crawl on your feet and one woke me one night crawling on me. There were diapers taped to the boat all over because the boat leaked when it rained. The tenders both died after a dive, we were stuck on them for about 45 minutes to an hour while the main boat called another live aboard in the area to send their tender to save us. The crew worked all night to get both tenders working for the next day, but we had to change our planned route so as not to be so remote in case something happened again.

Battery charging was limited to the camera room and the boat provided 24 hour crew to monitor the boat for safety.

We had 2 divers with existing injuries, the crew got both to the hospital. One could return to the boat and the other had to be flown to Bali for medical attention. The boat provided an employee to fly with the diver to make sure he didn't have any challenges with language.

Closest Airport Kaimana Getting There The flights do get exhausting as it is best to check into the FM7 in Jakarta to rest before the midnight flight. From Florida it took me 5 days and 7 flights to get to Kaimana. Because the reliability of the final flight, we were forced to arrive a day early to ensure we were on the boat before departure.

UW Photo Comments Each station had its own rinse for camera and the camera room had a good area and some storage. The crew was very careful with the cameras and handed them to divings when in the water and took them first when divers returned to the tenders.
