Comments It took two full days to reach Ambon from Florida, with 4 international/domestic flights and an overnight stay in Jakarta. It was a long, exhausting trip, but after diving there for a week, I felt it was worth the hassle. Best of all, I saw and photographed the two spieces of fish in my wish list: Rhinopia and psychedelic frogfish. Other than these encounters, Lembeh Strait, where we went right after Ambon, offered better muck diving (more unique creature sightings).

After leaving the resort at 8:15 AM and doing two morning dives, lunch on board, and one afternoon dive, we often came back to the resort around 5 PM, because the first dive site was usually an hour away by boat and each dive lasted over 70 minutes. We felt never rushed to end a dive. Our diver-to-guide ratio was excellent 2:1.

I booked the least expensive standard room at the resort to avoid stairs. The room was basic, but A/C was strong. Internet connection was good for such a remote location. Breakfast and dinner were buffet style with very limited selection. One big negative was early morning loud music (radio?) heard from a neighboring property between 4 AM and 5 AM every day.
