Comments I should have checked Trip Advisor before booking this resort, where several reviews described the loud music at all hours. The Undercurrent reviews did not bring the noise issue to my attention. Had I known ahead of time, I would never have booked here.

The problem is that the small resort is separated from local fishermen's homes only by a cinder block wall. The fishermen have concert-sized speakers that blast music at all hours of the day and night. The resort provides ear plugs. There are at least two causes: first, the locals really like loud music, and have no incentive to favor the tourists. Second, they may resent the resort, which came to their village with its impacts in 2006. When the assistant manager threatened to call the police during the blasting rock concert, they turned it off, but burned trash so the acrid smoke filled the resort.

The resort itself generates noise too, from the air compressor and the power generator. Most resorts keep these noise-makers some distance from the sleeping rooms, but this one is too small for that. The whole package was intolerable.

It worked: they drove us away. Unfortunately, having pre-paid for the room and the diving, we lost our money. There are no refunds for cancellations. We moved to Kunkungan Bay Resort (KBR) which is distant from the local village, where we enjoyed the peaceful environment and good diving.
