Comments The Lumba Lumba accommodations and associated Bunaken diving were fantastic and I recommend them for divers of all levels and experience. As you exit the MDC airport you are met by a Lumba Lumba representative that transfers you to the resort. I had a late arrival, but the Lumba Lumba staff provided me with a tropical fruit plate, water, garlic roaster peanuts and beers.

Lumba Lumba is a small luxury dive resort that is owned and operated by a pair of dedicated divers. They have developed a wonderful dive resort with very comfortable cabins that are surrounded by beautiful gardens and breathtaking views of the ocean. The breakfast, lunch and dinner are, in my view, the best in the Manado area. The meals are family style so you get to meet and dine with your fellow divers and the resort owners. The open air restaurant not only serves excellent food, but it also features sweeping views of the ocean. In a word, the resort is fantastic!

Now let’s talk about the Bunaken diving. Lumba Lumba has a very comfortable dive boat that speeds its divers to the Bunaken dive park. It is about an hour boat ride. There are a multitude of dive sites at the Bunaken park that are selected based upon the weather, wind and dive conditions. The condition of the coral is excellent and the marine life is abundant. For those sea turtle lovers, you will encounter a turtle at every turn. For the small critter lovers, there is a plenitude of nudibranchs. A couple of firsts for me were two Spanish dancers and an electric clam. The other marine life included, but was definitely not limited to, schooling open mouth mackerel, tuna, white tip sharks, always entertaining anemone fish, tropical fish in the shallow hard coral, and giant clams. I don’t think any diver would be disappointed with any of the Bunaken dives.

The clarity of the water is very good. I estimate the clarity to be 15 - 20 meters. The water temperature is a comfortable 80 degrees Fahrenheit. I used a 2.5 mil suit.

The Lumba Lumba dive guides were helpful and knowledgeable. The dive groups are small so your guide can provide you with as much or as little interaction as you desire. There were three divers in my group.

Although it rains most every day, The storms are intermittent and they do not limit or impair the diving or the dive experience. The rain keeps the gardens and the jungles a verdant green.

I recommend Lumba Lumba and Bunaken to divers young and old. When compared to a live aboard, the Lumba Lumba is a great value. Check out the Lumba Lumba Diving web site for more information and pictures and rates. Lumbalumbadiving.com
