Comments Ambon is a muck diving location primarily, unless you take the optional trip out of the channel and into open water where there is more wall diving opportunity. We did both. The corals on the walls/reef were pristine but on the day we went it was windy, choppy and a long back jarring ride to get there. Channel diving is all muck with plenty of macro opportunities pointed out by our dive guide Jonny. Not sure if it was the moon phase, time of year or what, but the currents were ripping the entire time we were there making for some challenging diving that would not be enjoyable for those with less experience or dive skills. Overall, I liked Maluku, the A frame bungalows, open air dining under the porch roof, and the diving. The new pier will make getting in and out of the boats much easier than the walk on rocks with surging sea we encountered. Place is close to the airport and relatively easy to get to.
