Comments Resort is in an isolated area of Raja Ampat...normally a 4.5 hour boat ride from Sorong which would be on an ideal ocean weather day. However in May this was definitely not the case. It took us 6.25 hours on a boat that should have stayed in the Sorong harbor. The boat was in very poor condition...motor quit twice & it took over an hour for crew to get it restarted the first time while we just pitched & rolled in very rough seas...people were seasick, boat took on enough water for luggage to get wet as it was sloshing back & forth thru the boat. It was pouring rain also & windshield wipers didn't work, compass fell off, head didn't work, diesel fumes were awful & captain chain smoked. It was a nightmare. This was not the resorts boat...they probably didn't want to use their boat in those awful conditions. We did use their boat in following seas back to Sorong & it was comfortable. The wind blew 20 to 35 mph the entire trip & at the end of our trip the resort shut down for several months saying the monsoon season had started 5 weeks early...it should have shut down before our trip. I stayed in a north lagoon over the water unit with large open air bathroom which was very comfortable & convenient for diving & dining. Beware if staying on the south side & it's too rough for the water taxi to bring you to north side you will be faced with hiking up & down the rather steep hill several times each day. Restaurant was open air beside the lagoon. Food was not to my liking. Diving would have been good in better conditions. Due to the constant strong wind we had to dive on protected sites close to the resort so we never got to dive the best sites like Magic Mountain. We repeated several sites.By the last 2 dive days conditions were really bad all around. I did enjoy the beach breakfast each morning after the first dive & each morning breakfast was on a different beach...all with pretty views. Each dive group seemed to like their dive guide. I had been to Raja Ampat 3 times before...always in Feb which I knew was the prime dive time & always on liveaboards. I always liked the Misool area best so thought I'd give this Island Dreams group trip a try. I knew better due to the trip date in May so I only have myself to blame for wasting my money, time & energy on this trip. It was impossible to get a large group there in prime dive season. If I ever go back to Raja Ampat it will be on a good liveaboard out of Sorong.
