Comments The diving in southern Raja Ampat beats the north for corals, reef fish, and pelagics, especially in the Marine Protected Area that Misool Eco Resort manages. Every dive featured all your standard reef fish, except more and larger: giant groupers, massive congregations of red snappers, schools of jacks and big eye trevallies, giant trevallies, barracuda, oceanic triggerfish, black tip and white tip reef sharks, and hundreds of devil rays hunting the schools of anchovies that blanketed the reefs on half the dives I did. Lots of big grey reef sharks below 30 meters. Oceanic and reef mantas on every dive on Magic Mountain, the MPA's signature dive. Flasher wrasse and mandarins on the house reef as well as guitar sharks on the sand flats. For both wide angle and macro, it's epic diving, on some of the healthiest corals I've seen. As for the resort, I'm shocked they can offer such a high standard of accommodation in such a remote area. Plated meals, great all around, spa services, ideal place for couples and families.
