Comments We had a 6-day "adventure" aboard the Moana in early summer of 2015. The best I can say about the experience is that the diving opportunities in Komodo National Park are extraordinary. The advice I would offer is to book with any vessel other than Moana.

We made the mistake of thinking that the Komodo diving experience would be the same regardless of the outfitter. This proved to be a grossly erroneous assumption. The dive coordinator/cruise host/dive master was consistently inconsiderate and aloof to the interests of the guests. A number of the guests began referring to him as "The Gestapo", an apropos description given his personality and authoritarian demeanor. Inattentive and arrogant, abandoning guests during dives while lambasting them for not keeping up, this this "guide" made it clear, both verbally and through his actions, that he was not at all interested in being there.

Aside from this one individual, the rest of the live-aboard experience was generally unremarkable. The food was adequate but bland. Exhaust fumes throughout the ship diminished the otherwise healthy appetite one might expect at sea. The other staff were eager to offer support but abundant faulty equipment made this a difficult task.

After the trip the Moana management made it quite clear they were not interested in dealing with issues aboard the boat and, other than collecting fees, had no concern with guest relations.
