Comments	Well, we wanted to dive the best places in the world and I think we just found the ultimate in the Dampier Strait. Long flying time (took 3 days and about 30 hours) to get to Sorong, and then a few hours by boat to Gam Island. The cultural immersion started with the welcome sing sing at the resort pier by all the resort workers. What fun to sing and dance with the local Papuan people!! After the preliminary paper work, we were led to our pondok (over water bungalow). This was our home for 10 nights. The view was absolutely gorgeous toward the strait and Mansuar Island. Yoga on the deck, sunset views, large room, plenty of cool breeze (no AC), etc. Food was plentiful and you have plenty of time to make it after each dive. There is massage and you can go on kayaks. So, what could make it perfect? Well, no internet in the pondoks, and it was really slow in the main lounge. Light in the bathroom could be brighter. To the main reason we are here. The diving was out of this world on most dive sites. We saw just about all the reef critters except for epaulette shark. There were plenty of mantas (Manta Sandy, Manta Wai and Manta Ridge) and schools of just about everything. We saw "fish soup" at Cape Kri and Blue Magic. Several dive sites had giant tridacna clams (I mean the real big ones!!). Pygmy seahorses were abundant and so were wobbegong sharks and crocodile fish. The coral? Amazing hard and soft coral variety covering the reefs. Boat rides were anywhere from 10 minutes to 30 minutes to most dive sites. I like the fact that you can ask to be with the same dive guide. Ours was Tommy and he can find anything for you. Dive briefing done at the pier and it was detailed with nice pictures. They even want guests to jot down what they saw. This is for their reef database. Reef hooks can be borrowed. It was great to have hot chocolate and local snacks after each dive.
