Pluses: Great micro sea animals and fish and reefs World class living quarters, meals, dive boats, dive masters, service Their resort reef that you can walk to was recently rated best resort reef in the Pacific and we AGREED ! Unbelievable ! Unique black light night dive was well worth the extra $165 I am large, athletic but high body fat and was comfortable in 3 mm suit. Only ONE in our large group was comfortable in T shirt & swim suit. Minuses: VERY FEW macro sea animals Things we wished we knew before we went to Wakatobi Dive Resort: My 29 year old low body fat daughter needed more than 3 mil dive suit by 2nd or 3rd dive or she would get too cold. Had to add an additional shortie over regular dive suit which they had for RENT or PURCHASE. If you have this thinner, low fat body type and your own extra layers available, BRING THEM ! NO GLOVES ALLOWED. We had never had that restriction before. That created a problem holding on to rocks when current kicks up and you want to hold on to something to view an animal(s) or coral longer. Take home: If you have reef rods, bring them as they were very stabilizing for those who had them ! We did NOT have any reef rods (which all the dive masters had) and wished we did or had known we needed them. We ordered reef rods from Ken Zoll, Zoll Dental, Niles, IL (800) 239-2904 by the end of the FIRST DAY of diving. Sadly, he did not bring extra to sell, and they had none for sale or rent on the island. Several in our group had his reef rods and it was easy to see they were SUPERIOR to the stock reef rods even our dive masters used ! If you are diving as a family as we were, you need something to get the attention of the others in your group to point out great things not to be missed along the wall or in the corals, because you can get distracted there are so many things to see. And everyone is constantly slowly scanning for the unique little creatures. I had one of those air tank ring knockers which I used all the time ! Glad I had it. Since returning, I can not find those any more for my daughters, but my dive shop had newer supposedly better attention getters that do not scare the wildlife. |

Enforced diving restrictions | Needed to stay with dive masters due to currents, and they were best finding small critters, that it took us several dives to find, even though the dive masters were pointing them out from Dive 1. | ||
