Comments Wakatobi Resort is an outstanding dive resort located a 2+ hour charter flight from Bali. Unlike many dive operators / resorts, they provided a full credit from our originally August 2020 scheduled trip that was canceled due to Covid.

The accommodations were in stand alone bungalows that were serviced twice a day. Plenty of interior space and a large covered deck. Outdoor showers and a large bathroom. The dining was buffet style with many stations that rotated the food throughout the week. The grounds of the resort were nicely landscaped. The main lodge and dive area had a photographers room, library and there was an outdoor bar at the end of the pier. A location to have end of the day drinks and watch the sunset.

The dive operation was extremely well run. Basically concierge diving with all gear carried to / from the boats, and assistance on and off the boat. 4-5 boats were used each day. Depending on the number of snorkelers, a separate boat could be used for that activity. either way the snorkelers were well cared for and were able to snorkel the same locations as the divers since most all of the dives were walls or sea mounts.

Photographers had separate tables on the large boats and rinse tanks. After each dive towels (dry and hot wet one for the neck) were provided. Plenty of snacks and water also included.

Pelagics were few. The primary draw here were the many walls that were covered by healthy corals, fish and small critters. Whether you were diving or snorkeling, the dive guides made it a point to locate unique critters. Bottom time typically ran 60 minutes. Currents were prevalent but nothing extreme. The weather in August was mostly sunny and windy. Wind surfers were also accommodated at the resort.

Most of the visitors were returning guests, more on the mature side like my wife and I (60's), although there were visiting dive groups of mixed ages and some younger couples. The resort is an excellent place for a land based dive operation that also caters to a spouse who snorkels but does not dive. For us, it was nice to see healthy corals in abundance. Just sorry it is so far from the East coast of the USA.
