Comments This was our second trip to Wakatobi/Pelagian. We spent 2 weeks on the Pelagian in December, 2007, and although we did not stay at the resort on that trip we did dive some of the resort reefs from the Pelagian. The main purpose of this trip was to participate in an Ikelite photo school at the resort. As a mainly self-taught photographer I can highly recommend the photo school. I learned a lot that will help my photography in the future. The Ikelite folks were just great. The Wakatobi resort was all that its advertising leads you to expect. The operation is well organized. The people are very customer service oriented. The cottages (even the cheap ones) are comfortable. The food is very good. The dive boats are large, comfortable, and make diving easy. Most sites are within about 20 minutes of the resort, although we did go out to one site that was about 45 minutes away. The only downside at this point is that the reefs are not as healthy and the fish life not as prolific as our previous trip. There was lots of dead coral and sand where there used to be healthy reefs. The sites that used to have clouds of anthias at the top of the reef now had just a few or none at all. That said, the rest of the group that we traveled with loved it as none of them had been there before and did not have the high level of expectations that we did.
