Comments This was definitely a five-star trip. Wakatobi staff met us at Denpasar Airport when we arrived in country, even though we had made arrangements to stay in Bali for four days before the charter flight to Wakatobi. On the day of our flight to Wakatobi, they again met us at the airport (outside domestic departure area) and escorted us through check-in. Personnel then took us to the waiting room, where a light breakfast was available. Staff were at the airport when the charter flight arrived at Wakatobi's airport with vans to take us to the boat for the ride to the Wakatobi resort (the airport and resort are on neighboring islands). Once at the resort, we were greeted, checked in for the boat, and had lunch before going to the Pelagian moored nearby.

Life on the Pelagian: OMG - service! You set up your gear once, and then it is put on the tenders. All you have to do is get into your wetsuit and step onto the tender. They even take your camera from rinse tank to tender and back again. Gear is put on just before back rolling into the water. The guides are good at pointing out the various critters. Dive briefings are special in that they include show and tell of what you might see. Tanks are refilled on the tenders, and the tenders are raised out of the water alongside the Pelagian when not in use. Gear is covered so it is protected.

The Pelagian only takes a max of 10 divers (5 cabins) and has 12 crew. It feels very spacious, and even has an inside camera room (of the 9 divers on our charter, I think there were 9 cameras!). At the end of the week we could take a tour of the engine room (it is so clean - we were barefoot!), and the wheel-house (impressive). Food is excellent, and there is a choice for most meals. They also had a cooking lesson at the end of the week.

We had great diving, and water (Oct) ranged from 81-86F. I wore a 1mm with a beanie; others wore Sharkskins, 3mm, 5mm. We had 25 dives during the week with four dives most days. Schedule was grazing breakfast, dive, full breakfast, dive, lunch, dive, snacks, dust/night dive, dinner. Most dives were 70min, nitrox is available, and they have standard and big tanks. Critters range from macro (one person even caught the 'sea fleas' on a nudibranch) to some wide angle. Reefs are extremely healthy and colorful.

Would definitely do this trip again. The week on the Pelagian went much too quick.

UW Photo Comments Camera room had adequate space for everyone, including plenty of outlets for charging batteries. There were also separate towels to use with cameras. If you needed anything, all you had to do was ask the staff.
