Comments This was my second time diving with Ito Diving Services Bommie. The place has an interesting background. The owner made a deal with local fisherman, who were catching many Banded Houndsharks in their nets. He began feeding the sharks in an area to draw them away from the nets. The end result was less sharks being caught, which was good for the sharks and fisherman, and the owner built a thriving dive business. A win, win win. The resulting dive is referred to as a "shark scramble". On some dives, hundreds of these small sharks show up to receive handouts, along with many other fish, including Yellowtail Amberjack, Red Stingrays, large Grouper, Asian Sheepshead, and other schooling fish. It all makes for a very exciting 30 minutes. The surrounding reef and sandy area, where the dive takes place, also contains a lot of life. There are sometimes Angel Sharks, Butterfly Rays, Guitarfish and Flounder in the sand, and cool critters like Nudibranchs and Pineapplefish on the surrounding reef. Sometimes there is a strong surface current which disappears with a bit of depth. The entry and exit from the boat includes a line system that makes it easy to enter/exit the water, even with a strong surface current. The dive is very well organized. The dive site is less than 10 minutes from the dock and the boat leaves each hour when the shop is busy. The next group is ready to board as the previous group disembarks. The shop has excellent facilities for rinsing and cleaning gear and cameras and has plenty of drying racks. The staff is excellent and the owner, Kan, is very involved and is a very personable guy. He personally took us diving on the last day. He speaks English, but other employees not so much. Despite that, it was easy to communicate with everyone. They have a dive briefing video that is translated to english, for convenience. The shop does not have an associated hotel, but we stayed at the Tateyama Resort Hotel, around 5 minutes away by car. The resort is a bit dated, but clean and comfortable. The rooms include breakfast and dinner and the food was good. We picked up lunch at local markets and convenience stores prior to arriving at Bommie. they have a refrigerator, microwave and hot water dispenser at Bommie for guests to use, along with a tea dispenser. Japan is an underrated dive destination. There are several spots, relatively close to Tokyo, that provide a cool and unique dive experience, such as Bommie. I have been here twice already and I can certainly see myself coming back again in the future. I can certainly recommend Ito Diving Services Bommie for a fun and unique diving experience.

UW Photo Comments The subject matter is excellent. Sometimes a challenge to keep divers out of photos, but it can be done with ingenuity. There are separate rinse containers on shore and lots of space to work on cameras around the shop.
