Comments Sipadan is amazing even though I was there off season. Apparently april is the best time of year to go. In august we had rain at night which kept the viz pretty poor. The house reef at Mabul Resort is the best house reef I have ever encountered. It had nice corals, HUGE turtles, cuttlefish, mandarin fish and everything in between. I could have dived all four dives every day at that reef and been a very happy diver. The house reefs at the other resorts, which represent the other dive sites on non sipadan days, were not nearly as nice.
As readers likely know, getting to Sipadan itself is based on a lottery system. Contact the resort directly about this. I was told that if I stayed five nights I would be guaranteed one day in Sipadan, but the deals they are running depend on the number of people at the resort. When I got there I was not listed for any days to Sipadan, but when I politely (this is key) mentioned it to the office, I ended up going to Sipadan twice.
Diving at Sipadan can be summed up with two words; turtle shark turtle shark shark shark turtle turtle.... Of course you can also find the chevron barracuda schools and many other things. Overall, I hope to go back to Mabul and Sipadan. I will definitely go with Mabul Resort and Borneo divers, A+ resort and dive team.

UW Photo Comments No rinse tank on the boats because sites are so close to the resort. Was difficult to find a safe place to put camera during boat trips. Back at the resort there was a very large dedicated camera rinse tank. The number of fantastic things to take pics of made me forget about the camera abuse.
