Comments The Maldives Aggressor performed extremely well in the important categories: the diving, the crew, the meals, and the boat.

The weather was perfect with calm seas and 80F+ water temperatures. The 10 night itinerary had channel-drift dives, wrecks and night dives. We had plenty of mantas, sharks and moray eels. You can read about the dives in the Aggressor site at [aggressor.com link] and you can get the Log for our trip at [aggressor.com link]

Several dives stand out. In the Alimatha House dive you mingle with 10 or more nurse sharks, each about 12 feet or more. Toss a huge ray in the mix just for fun. The sharks were so cute. Like puppy dogs. They would come to you and rub against you. Or they would just lay in the sand in front of you. In the Fish Factory dive you get to mix with a multitude of rays (at least 30), and a huge number of moray eels of all colors and stripes. I have never seen anything like this. The two dives for searching for Whale Sharks were boring because we did not find them and there was nothing else that appealed. So it goes.

We did 28 dives so a bit more than 3 per day. You may think that this is on the low side, but I did not mind because many of the dives are in strong currents where you need a reef hook to watch the action. So be prepared.

Coral lovers would have been relatively happy with hard and soft corals. We did see a fair amount of dead coral, a sad sight indeed. I could not evaluate the extent of coral damage; you need a scientist with data for that. In my view, the coral in the Caribbean is in better shape.

The crew was outstanding. We had 11 divers and three DM, so no more than 4 divers per DM. Nice. My DM, Ripon, was first-rate, but the whole crew was outstanding. The diving is done from a dhoni; at 60 feet long, this is a non-trivial vessel that carries all the tanks and compressor. I have never seen a setup like this. Nice.

The meals on the Aggressor were amazing. Really. At lunch they had fish that would be cooked to order. This was unusal but much appreciated by fish lovers. Dinners were 4-course affairs with white linens. The presentation was beautiful and the food was worthy of a high-end restaurant. Really.

The Maldives Aggressor is an impressive boat. Spacious and well-kept. The dining room had 3 tables, each table with room for 8 guests. The staterooms had individual (not bunk) beds, with plenty of room to store your stuff. Nice showers.

Our Maldives Aggressor gets high marks, but be aware that flight times from the US are on the high side. I flew via Istanbul, and spent 3 day there on the way back. I loved the Old Town with all the history. It did not hurt that the prices were low (at least in October). For example, my premium room in a very nice hotel in the middle of Old Town was $90/night with breakfast included.
