Comments Wish I'd been here 20 years ago when the coral was healthy. The combination of a massive bleaching event and the out of control construction of luxury beach resorts has reduced much of the coral reef to algae covered rubble. I hope the far south is in better condition, but didn't make it down there. The diving was focused on channels and hooking in to watch sharks- mostly Gray Reef and Whitetips cruise by, and manta cleaning stations. Visibility was often poor and dive sites mobbed by up to six other liveaboards. There are some sites that still show how gorgeous this place can be, and huge schools of blue striped snappers, humpback snappers, clouds of anthias and other colorful fish can be seen. If you want to see sharks and manta you will. We jumped in with one whale shark for a quick snorkel.

The boat is large and comfortable with good food. Good camera tables and charging available. They were very rigid with dive time and due to currents we tried to all stay together and surface together. We did three dives a day, with 2 night dives. I did not care for the dive tender set up. It was a very large boat that you left all your gear on. Entry was by giant stride off a rather high side gate, and getting back on the boat was by climbing up a long ladder with all your gear on- not fun and rather exhausting. I will write a review on the Carpe Vita which has a much better set up. Most dives were in strong currents using reef hooks, visibility was generally poor. There was a mix of European and American guests. My preference is for long, slow dives and macro with lots of healthy coral so just not my style.
