Comments This was our seventh trip to the Maldives and the first to Mirihi. It's a very small island and has deliberately positioned itself as not joining in with the arms race of facilities that other islands are offering. There are no TVs here, no pool and the place is very quiet. It is designed to be like this and when we were there was full of returners, predominantly Swiss. A disproportionate number of the island's visitors come here to dive and I would rate the diving here as being better than at Komandoo and at Constance Moofushi, our two most recent destinations. The dive op. was very well run and in Anja, Steve, Susan and Samir we were very well guided. The viz when we were there was variable, understandable given the change in the wind direction that takes place May/June and we were lucky with the weather. Some of the dive sites (especially the ones that have been left alone for a couple of years by fishermen) were extraordinary and there was one in particular which was almost bewildering with the amount of fish on it - probably tens of thousands of snappers and fusiliers. We saw plenty of sharks and turtles, the odd eagle ray, manta, mobula and were very lucky to experience a juvenile whale shark go over our heads when we were at 18m, a hugely memorable experience. The corals are variable and of course this something that Mirihi has no control over. The coral around the hotel is predominantly bleached with the odd bit of growth/renewal but on the dive sites themselves most appeared to be either healthy or coming back. We saw sea fans and lots of soft coral and overall I would rate the diving as good. The food here is amongst the best in the Maldives and Felix and his team do an incredible job. We fully intend returning.
