Comments DISEMBARKED FROM "VISION OF THE SEAS CRUISE SHIP". AFTER PASSING ALL THE PEOPLE SCREAMING AS THEY HAWKED THEIR SERVICES ON THE DOCK, THE DIVEMASTER FROM "AMIGO DEL MARE" SAW ME CARRYING MY EQUIPMENT AND POLITELY ASKED, IN A LOW KEYED MANNER, IF I WAS LOOKING TO MAKE A DIVE. SEEING HIS DEMEANER, AND THE WRITTEN STATED PRICE LIST FOR AMIGOS DEL MARE ON A BILLBOARD AND IN THE BROCHURE, I ASKED TO DIVE THE "RIVER OF SAND". I WAS THE ONLY CUSTOMER. WE WENT TO THE DIVE SHOP, RENTED A BC WITH WEIGHTS ($11), CHANGED MY HOSE FOR ONE THAT FIT (NO CHARGE), SIGNED THE RELEASE AFTER CHECKING MY C CARD, PAID ($40)FOR THE SINGLE DIVE WHILE MY WETSUIT WAS CHECKED FOR THICKNESS (I USED A 5 ML WITH HOOD)AND WAS JUDGED ADEQUATE. THE BOAT DRIVER TRUNDLED DOWN THE TANKS AND EQUIPEMENT TO THE BOAT WHICH WAS JUST A SHORT WALK TO THE PIER. THE EQUIPMENT WAS HANDLED BY THE BOAT DRIVER AND DIVEMASTER. ON THE WAY TO THE SIGHT (EL ARCO, 10 MINUTES)THE DIVE BRIEFING WAS THOROUGH WITH A PROPER DIVE PLAN WHICH WAS: 1. SWIM TO THE ANCHOR, 2. MEET AT THE SAND BOTTOM (20 FT.) SWIM AROUND THE ROCK TO 53 FT., 3. THEN DROP DOWN TO 95 FT WHILE SWIMMING TOWARDS THE SAND FLOW. 4. AFTER WE WOULD SPIRAL BACK UP SLOWLY GOING AROUND THE ROCK AGAIN TO DO A SAFETY STOP AT 20 FT., THEN BACK ON BOARD AFTER HANDING WEIGHTS, B.C. AND FLIPPERS BEFORE GOING UP THE LADDER. THE DIVE WAS INTERESTING WITH A JUMBLE OF ROCKS WITH CLAMS CLINGING TO THEM AND LOTS OF NOOKS, CRANNIES AND CREVACES FOR GOODIES TO HIDE IN. THERE WERE SCHOOLS OF FISH FROM TRUMPET FISH (WEIRD WITH NO CORAL TO EMULATE NEXT TO THE BOULDERS) MOORISH IDOLS, A CROSS BETWEEN AN ANGEL FISH AND SURGEON FISH, GROUPER, SHARK AND MANY OTHER SCHOOLS OF LOCAL TROPICALS. THE DIVEMASTER WENT AT MY PACE AND PUT UP WITH MY INSPECTIONS OF MANY OF THE SPACES BETWEEN THE BOULDERS, ASCENDING TO CHECK OUT THE "RIVER OF SAND" DESCENDING TO LOOK AT INTERESTING "STUFF". ON THE WAY BACK WE PASSED BY THE SEA LION COLONY AND THE POPULAR PLAYA D'AMOUR WHICH FACES BOTH THE PACIFIC AND THE SEA OF CORTEZ. I WAS TREATED WITH RESPECT AND NOT "MOTHER HENNED" THE CHECK IN WAS EFFICIENT, THE DIVEMASTER POINTED OUT INTERESTING THINGS. IT WAS A TERRIFIC DIVE ON A GREAT CRUISE.
