Comments This was my third trip to Cabo Pulmo, and probably the least successful. Some strong winds came up and blew cold water into the marine park, dropping the temperature from 75 to 65, which was just too chilly for me. Dive masters with more experience recommended coming back in Sept/Oct/Nov for the ideal combination of mild weather above ground and warm temperatures in the water.

The park is much more strict than it was 10 years ago (our last trip); dives are strictly limited to 50 minutes (45 bottom time) and there is a quota system which means that end-of-month diving in high season may see limited dive sites. Sites are only allowed to have a single boat on them, and the park continues to prohibit mooring buoys (all dives are drift dives) and even docks. Boats are strictly limited to 6 divers or less, with a guide present at all time.

All this pays off in generally fish-full sites, although the colder water made it difficult for me to appreciate things. My memory of 10 years ago is that the diving was better, but I think that the water temperature was to blame here.

We had not dove with this operator before; we used Cabo Pulmo Divers and switched because CPBR offered a discount for us renting from Baja Paradise (highly recommended; the best rental in all of Cabo Pulmo by far). Our first days of diving were marred by a fairly inexperienced guide who had poor judgement and skills at handling 6 divers. We switched to another guide at the same shop who really knew his stuff, and our diving experience jumped up considerably.

The shop was professionally run. They have a VERY strict cancellation policy---be careful about this! But things were generally on time, reliable, and the warm-water pool after the cold-water dives was a super-welcome perk. Boat captains super-competent and efficient jacks-of-all-trades.

Based on my experience the first half of our week of diving, I wouldn't go back to this shop; based on my experience the second half, I definitely recommend them.
