The first morning of diving we were not even greeted with a "Hello". They seemed to be unaware that we had booked a two day diving package. We had to ask about everything. We were made to feel as unwelcome as could be. The divemasters, Fabricio and Chucho, did as little as they possibly could to be helpful in any way. Fortunately, the diving made up for the crew's attitude. Diving with the sea lions was phenomenal. They tugged at fins, proded you with their noses and were curious about everything. El Bajo lived up to it's reputation with strong currents, but the reward of 250 schooling Hammerheads...an amazing sight. While the divemasters were lackluster about their jobs, the captain of the Siempre Si was fantastic. Very helpful with cameras and helping divers back on board. He even prepared the Mexican lunches! Always willing to redirect the boat to see whales surfacing, dolphins riding the wake and even to see an occasional turtle, he made up for the poor service of the divemasters. Boat was comfortable with 12 divers, but would have been too crowded with more (they say they take up to 25 divers). Accommodations at Club Cantamar were weathered with use, but the rooms and bedding were clean. I would definitely dive La Paz again, but choose another dive operator with more enthusiastic, safe and helpful staff. |
