Comments Although we've dove the great sites around the world, we've always put this destination off because we thought it was too expensive. Boy, were we wrong.
Although it's possible to spend a lot of money in Palau, by looking carefully it's also possible to get a good value.
We were very impressed by the Aggressor ship and the crew. And the diving was really superb.
First the boat: it's a typical Aggressor boat, but the staff went out of their way to accommodate our vegetarian request. Food was varied and tasty. Breakfast and lunch are buffet style, dinner was sit down. The captain is real hard working. And boy can he dive! One night just he and I dove. I tried to film some skeleton shrimp on a branch while hovering. He held perfectly still in open water stabilizing the branch for me! The dive skiff is really pretty cool. The skiff is stored at the same level as the back deck. You walk from the deck and board the skiff. No major stairs! Then the skiff itself slides down an incline with the divers aboard. Totally effortless!
Next the diving: we hit the great dive sites. Although there can be some ripping currents don't let that scare you off. Just go with the flow! But the currents are totally unpredictable. The dive sites are varied. Some ledges, some channels, a cave, and a shipwreck.
We debated about shore based vs live-aboard. I would highly recommend a live-aboard in this area. The dive sites are an hour's ride via a small, bumpy speed boat. Don't spend your vacation time in a bumpy boat!
Finally, before we boarded the boat we staying at the Paradise Hotel in downtown Kosrae. It was clean and comfortable.
This is a trip we wished we had done sooner.

UW Photo Comments Our boat was pretty full, but there was plenty of space. There's a table on the back deck where you store your camera kit.
