Comments It was great to be back on the Odyssey for another in-depth tour of Truk lagoon. I was glad to see some familiar faces on board again. The crew and boat appeared to have survived the hurricane from last year and the wrecks are in great shape. Madison was there to lead us again into the dark engine rooms of the Shinkoku Maru and the Rio DeJaneiro Maru. The water was a bit green for the week due to the rain but the diving was spectacular! See my attached video clips. I was treated to a private deep dive on the San Francisco Maru with Captain James. The rest of the guests avoided this dive due to the depths of 170 feet. If you ever want to explore historical WWII wrecks, this is a great trip with excellent guides and a fantastic live aboard. The food and crew are great and the boat is spacious. There are multiple lounges and many places to get away from the crowd if you seek privacy. The wrecks are covered with hard and soft corals. A diver does not need to penetrate the ships to enjoy the sights. The bottoms of the RIO DeJaneiro and Heian Maru are complete reef systems with fish, sponges, coral, and occasional rays and turtles. There were leopard sharks on the Shinkoku Maru but I missed them. See sights below for short videos.

UW Photo Comments The lower lounge was great for a dry location for camera set up. There is a large table with multiple shelves on the dive deck for storage of cameras too.
