Truk lagoon is the ultimate wreck dive site, especially if you're a WW-II history buff. It's a long run to get there, and we wouldn't have survived the trip, were it not for business class awards on United all the way. It would be hard to have had a better liveaboard experience than on the Odyssey. Our experience reflected the parameters described on the Odyssey's website, and we were not disappointed in anything we found on board. The wrecks are still in great shape, after 70 years, and with the lead provided by Barney, Tripler, and the rest of the guides, we penetrated the depths of these wonderful ships, an experience we will always remember. My wife appreciated the elevator entries and exits...much easier than climbing a ladder. I found the Christmas tree ladder very easy with fins on. Deco bar at 15 ft, and a buoyed ascent line on each wreck at the exit point were very useful. Our last day was spent at the Blue Lagoon Resort, which is essentially a dump. We left the boat early in the morning, for a day room at the Blue Lagoon, and our transportation to the airport for the 2:00 AM next-day flight was not until 11:30 PM. The downpour that day didn't make the Blue Lagoon any better! |

Enforced diving restrictions | Long penetrations, but mostly at medium depths made the diving on Nitrox 30 very comfortable. On our deepest dive, the San Francisco Maru, we did the dive first thing in the AM, on Nitrox 24, with a 16 minute bottom time, and a 35 minute deco, well within our zone of comfort. | ||

UW Photo Comments |
I no longer dive with a camera, but the photographers seemed to be pretty satisfied with the layout, rinse tanks etc. I bought the Truk video on the Boat, and have watched it several times since coming home...good "flyovers" of each wreck we dived...these segments are actually used as part of each dive briefing. |
