Comments The Odyssey is a very spacious boat. I had one of the single cabins and had plenty of room. The dining area is large and is separate from the salon which is also very spacious. The meals are primarily buffet although breakfast is made-to-order. The food is plentiful and very tasty. There is also a very good variety. The shrimp curry is especially tasty.

The boat has a full bar which is included in the fare. There is a good variety of beer and some better-than-average red/white wines.

The dive operations are handled very professionally and efficiently. The dive briefings are very thorough and helpful. Since one is diving deep on and in wrecks, it is wise to pay attention to the briefings. The dive deck is very spacious with each diver having an equipment locker under the bench by one's tank. The Odyssey offers steel tanks which eliminates the need for about 6 pounds of weights.

The Odyssey crew was great -- very helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating.

Navigation on the wrecks is made a bit easier by using waterproof 5x7 cards which show a schematic of the wreck and the highlights of each wreck. These cards are available for purchase on the boat. I found them very helpful.

The wrecks are truly a history lesson. They are filled with artifacts such as beer/sake bottles, small arms, torpedoes, airplanes, telegraphs, human remains, gas masks, ammo, artillery rounds, and many other items.

The marine life on the wrecks included awesome soft corals, eagle rays, many anemones with a variety of anemone fish and cleaner shrimp, pipefish, hawkfish, nudibranchs, flatworms, schools of jacks and barracuda.

Due to the location of Chuuk and flight schedules, it is necessary to spend the night before and after the Odyssey trip on Chuuk. I stayed at the Blue Lagoon Resort which has its own day boat dive operation. The accommodations and food were OK.

Dive Policy

Dive own profile
Enforced diving restrictions With several deep wrecks, divers dived their computers and deco dives were expected. We dived on 28% nitrox on most dives. Divers could go with or without a dive guide. If wreck penetration was pursued then it was best to go with a dive guide due to low viz.

UW Photo Comments The wrecks and the marine life offers superb opportunities for pictures. The dive guides know the wrecks and can find the best artifacts and critters for photos. The interior of the wrecks is often filled with particulates so backscatter is a challenge. The Odyssey has a large camera table, 2 camera rinse tanks and air hoses.
