Comments I took a PADI drysuit class on one day with two open water dives, one in a geothermal lake (Lake Kleifarvatn)and the other in a glacier-fed geologic crack (in Lake Pingvallavatn). Use of a drysuit was necessary because the water temperatures were typically not much higher than the freezing point. The course was actually a refresher for me. The DIVE.IS instructor (Nino) was excellent and the two dives were at unusual and unique locations. The water temperature in the geothermal lake was 52 F with about 10 m visibility, but the temperature in the lake with the crack was 38-39 F and up to 50 m visibility. The next day we made a drysuit dive in the Silfra fissure, where visibility was 100 m and water temperature was 37-38 F. Nino was our guide through the rift, and again he was excellent and made the dive and the day lots of fun.
I certainly recommend this dive company and the Iceland dive sites I visited, though it's not cheap. Also, the value of these dives was in the scenery and uniqueness of the environments, not animal life.

UW Photo Comments With the tremendous visibility, there is value for wide angle photography of walls and rock formations. Not much for underwater life or macro.
