Comments Diving the Silfra Crack is definitely one of those "Been there, done that, got the t-shirt" places. It is claimed to be the clearest water in the world and I believe it. It is certainly the best viz I have ever seen. But think about it....the viz is great because there is no particulate in the water. No particulate means no bacteria, no algae, and no plankton. With no biological elements in the water there is nothing to eat so there are no fish, no inverts. This is purely a dive for the structure and geology.

There is no where else in the world where you can be at 45 feet, 38 degrees F and touch two continents. The classic picture from the dive is arms spread, one hand on Europe and one on North America.

DIVE.IS picked me up at the cruise ship dock and returned me after the dives. Since it was mid-summer and far north, the pickup was at 4pm and return about 9pm, all in daylight.

Was is fun, YES. Would I do it again, probably not.
