Comments My dive club runs a trip here each year. We stay at the backpackers hostel in Ilfracombe and go out on the day boats to Lundy Island.

The hostel is clean and comfortable and reasonably priced. There are plenty of cafes, pubs, restaurants etc within a 5-10 min walk and the jetty for the boats is only a few minutes walk away as well.

Lundy Island is a protected area and the main attraction of diving here is the seals, who are super playful and extremely inquisitive. The best interaction is achiveved by wearing brightly coloured fins and hanging out in the shallows in the kelp so that they come to you.

Aside from the seals, the diving here is beautiful with huge lobsters, lots of crabs, nudibranchs, wrasse, and beautiful anemone walls.

Vis is extremely variable and was quite low this year when we visited as there were big Spring tides but it was still fabulous diving. Weather is also very variable as the island is quite exposed and the UK is famous for having lots of different weather in one day. Lundy is in fact my favourite place to dive in the whole of the UK though!

We were on Obsession II and Lundy diving have other boats too. Obsession has lots of room for kit and places to sit inside and outside. It also has a lift so super easy to get out of the water. Another great weekend was had diving 2 dives Saturday and 2 dives Sunday. We did seal dives each morning and pinnacle / wreck dives in the afternoon. This gives a chance to see a good variety of what Lundy has to offer.
