Comments When I travel to high end resort, especially one half way around the world, I have certain expectations. They are: a competent dive operation that doesn't restrict dives to the sites closest to their dock; comfortable accommodations; and food safe to eat. This resort met those expectations unlike their sister operation in Puerto Galera which I covered in separate review.

The dive sites located along the shore where the resort is located are on a sandy slope that levels out at 60 feet. There are patch reefs and artificial reefs along this slope. The patch reefs are healthy and fishy. The artificial reefs are developing nicely. There are many small marine reserves along the coast demarcated with buoys. They would make good areas to snorkel.

I also went on a day trips to Apo Island and Oslob. Apo Island has healthy reefs and lots of fish which are larger than the fish on the reefs near the resort.

Oslob is the famous Whale Shark snorkelling site. I and the others from the group who went here enjoyed it. The whale sharks are fed here. I did a reef shark feeding diving in the Bahamas and did not find that a satisfying experience.

There are two sizes of boats used here. The small boats are slightly larger than the ones used at Puerto Galera, are easier to board and have some sun cover. The large boats are traditional trimarans. They do not have to return to the resort between dives, have a large covered area, a primitive head and kitchen. Multiple groups of six divers can be accommodated on these boats. I was on the trimaran with another group. They had the senior dive master and always went first. The dive plan was the same for both groups which meant we never got to see the more skittish critters but got to see their silt. I complained about this to no avail.

The rooms at Dumagette are larger, furnished in a very modern style and considerably more comfortable than the rooms at Puerto Galera.

The food was beautifully presented, properly seasoned and safe to eat. The wait staff gave the impression of being inexperienced. More than once meals were forgotten and they had to be reminded of the order. Breakfast was ordered from a menu of breakfast standards. Lunch and dinner consisted of a soup or salad, your choice of a chicken, seafood, vegetarian and beef or pork entree and a dessert. The menu changed daily and there were repeats in my one week stay.

Subject Matter 5 stars Boat Facilities 2 stars
Overall rating for UWP's 4 stars Shore Facilities N/A
UW Photo Comments The boat facilities were a communial bucket to keep your camera in between dives. There is a shore facility but I did not check it out so I can't rate it.
