Comments We had a few days in Puerto Princesa after doing back to back weeks on the Infiniti Liveaboard in Tubbataha. When we were planning the trip, we had opted not to go to El Nido or elsewhere in the Philippines since we weren't sure about traveling around during Covid and we didn't want to spend a bunch more time in airports or in the car. We found Let's Dive Palawan by internet searching the day we got off of the liveaboard. I think that there were several other dive shops in Puerto Princesa pre-Covid, but right now Let's Dive Palawan seems to be the only one operating. We contacted them via email and they responded within a couple of hours. We stopped by the shop the next day to sort out logistics and dove with them the following 2 days after that. We met them at the shop, they gave us mesh bags for our gear (and let us leave our big travel rollerbag at the shop), and gave us a ride to the marina. The boat was small, but there was a canopy. Boat rides were not more than 15-20 min. They had water on the boat and some snacks between dive (fruit and cookies). They rinsed our gear back at the shop and let us leave it there to dry--we picked it up the day after we dove with them. Small dive operation: the owner and his wife, handful of DMs, office manager, and the guy who drives the boat. Backroll entry, ladder to get back in the boat. The first day, they kept our dives to around 60 min. The second day, we did 70-75 min dives.

Reefs were in okay, but not great shape. A couple of the dive sites felt more mucky than reef. We did not see tons of fish or big schools or pelagics (like you would out at Tubbataha), but the biodiversity was still pretty high. My husband and I are both REEF surveyors (www.reef.org) and saw some fish that we did not see out at Tubbataha. The first day, the dive guide and my husband saw a dugong during the dive! (I was unfortunately behind them and just saw a shape.)

I wouldn't plan a dive trip just to go to Puerto Princesa, but if you have a day or two before or after a liveaboard and want to check out the local dive scene, this is a well run operation (even though it is pretty small and barebones).

I am planning to do a review of Infiniti. It is a great boat with a great crew. Stay tuned.
