Comments MAGIC OCEANS RESORT

After my stay at Quo Vadis at Moalboal, Cebu, I headed over to Magic Oceans Resort (MOR) at Anda, Bohol fora 10 night stay. Instead of flying thru Manila to Bohol, I took the ferry out of Cebu harbor. The 2 hour ride on Oceanjet was much faster and cheaper than flying. The passenger ferry is very timely and comfortable. Upon arrival at Tagbilaran, Bohol, it is a 2 hour car ride east to Anda and MOR.

MOR is a very spacious and well-groomed resort with beautiful and fragrant flowering shrubs and trees. My room was conveniently located near the dive center. It was quite spacious with lots of storage and electrical outlets. Very comfortable. The room had a king bed and large bathroom area.

The restaurant at MOR offers a extensive menu for all meals. The menu includes a variety of both western and Filipino selections. The food is nicely prepared although at times there was a goodly wait between ordering and being served. There is also a nice bar for gathering after diving and before dinner.

The dive center offers a storage area for each diver’s gear. The gear is loaded on the boat by the crew. There is no separate camera room so I serviced my camera gear in my room, which was OK. There is a dock to the dive boat so no wading to/from. The dive boat is the usual Filipino bangka boat, which offered plenty of space for divers, gear and cameras. Dive entry is by giant stride.

I had a private dive guide who was one of the best I have ever had. He is an excellent critter finder and also quite adept at helping me with snoot shots. The marine life was essentially all suited for macro-photo. Due to the time of year and the recent typhoon, there was not an abundance of nudibranchs. In addition, with the recent wind and rain, the visibility was somewhat limited. The dive sites included a nice variety of walls, coral gardens and sandy bottoms. I did a night dive from the shore, which was not ideal due to the low tide. There was a long walk out to about 5’ of water where gear was donned then a long kick out to edge of the reef. Of course, the reverse was encountered when finishing the dive.

All of the staff at MOR was always very friendly and helpful. My room was quite comfortable and kept clean and tidy. The variety of tasty food was offered. The diving was quite good. I will return should the opportunity present itself.
