Comments This being my first trip to the Philippines, I had a loose set of expectations of what I would experience on my 10 day Philippines Aggressor itinerary around the Visayas. Sure, I reviewed Undercurrent reader’s reports and talked to friends that had been there before, but I didn’t make must see animal lists or must visit locations. This is just as well since mother nature dictated an itinerary that typically wasn’t documented on the Aggressor’s recent Adventure logs. We visited many of the highlighted islands like Malapascua and Apo, but we traveled to the East, close to Leyte, versus to the West of Cebu which is the route often taken per trip reports. East or West may not matter since we were in the Coral Triangle with its diversity of corals and critters.

We did 33 dives during the week typically relocating to different islands nightly and making 3 day dives and one night dive before moving on. Most dives were spent looking for small creatures. The pace of finding subjects could be slow at times where nothing of interest was found but it seemed that every dive eventually revealed something that attracted us photographers like bees to flowers. In retrospect, sea horses of various flavors, blue ringed octopi, frog fish in different palates (but not psychedelic), crabs, nudis, shrimp, snakes, turtles, and more were always discovered with ...
