Comments the bad: biting bugs in room and parlor; but, once mentioned, they sprayed my room and used mosquitos repellant candle; Sumisid lodge had expensive dinners (the worker there said it costs 650 peso for dinner); the toilet was very cramped there; I would not do it but the backpackers hotel (1 block away) had 3 nights and 5 dives for 4,999 Ph peso (which is ~ 1/2 of my diving and lodging costs; Magic island resort had sold out and I saw their 3 bangas full a few times.
the good: Rudy and his assistant, (Cino or Sino) were competent and found turtles, ghost pipe fishes, pegasus, sea moth, sm. critters, etc.; they did do 1 dive in AM and 1 at 2PM or were flexible and did 2 AM dives; a few dining places were very cheap or reasonable; while, Eve's Kiosk had good and low cost dinners (e.g., 95 peso for Pancit Canton plate)and her rooms were 500 peso. nite for fan room and 1200 peso. night for air-con. room.
wish I had known: turtle bay was reputed to have space for 30 divers but usually had 5 divers and the food there was reputed to be very excellent.
