Comments We booked our trip on the Solomons Master in mid 2023 for May 2025. Looking at photos from the website, the boat looked nice, a higher level of refinement than the sister liveaboards, Sirens, we had experienced in Indonesia and Philippines. The price of approx. $750 pp/day for an 11-night trip was hefty, but going by the photos, it seemed worth it. And to be fair, several things about the trip were very good. I’ll start there.

The good
As is often the case, the crew was excellent. In the liveaboard industry, the boat drivers, dive guides, engineers, waitstaff, etc. are some of the hardest-working people we have ever had the pleasure to meet. On the Solomons Master, the crew exceeded expectations with one exception, which I will explain later.
Also great was the diving operation. I absolutely loved the tow rope from the dive site to the boat. Clever and fun. All of the dive sites were close to the mothership, so we almost always got towed. I also loved the ladder at the back of the boat. Probably the best ladder on any liveaboard boat we have been on since we started diving liveaboards in 2004. In fact, there were two! The spaces between the steps were small so getting up the ladder with gear on my back was so easy. My petite dive buddy was impressed and so was I. On the Master, the tanks were filled so quickly by Mongas and Elison, the engineers. Both were excellent at their jobs and so helpful. Alex and Patrick were so great at driving the boats, picking us up, and keeping us safe. We noted that they were always present in the dinghies when we dropped into the water, even when we did live drops from the back of the Master.
The dive guides were excited to dive, gave great briefings, were engaging, caring, competent, and I generally felt safe and in good hands with them. We could not have asked for better in the diving department. Lupa and Tom were stoked and ha ... Subscribe to get the full story. For Subscribers Only  Active subscribers continue reading here
