Comments	Wonderful first visit to Sint Eustatius (aka Statia), pleasantly surprised by the quality of the diving but really, really appreciated the quiet nature and off-the-beaten-path feel of the island. We chose Statia for an extended weekend (THURS-TUES) trip due primarily to the promise for seclusion + worthwhile diving, but also because it’s relatively easy to reach, even with the transfer through St. Maarten. After scanning reviews we chose to go with the Old Gin House (accommodations) and Scubaqua (diving), which absolutely felt like the right choice based on some less than glowing remarks we heard on our travels home from folks who had tried out the newer Golden Rock outfit (combined resort with its own dive center) While Gin House is older and feels a little more basic, the staff are wonderful and the rooms are totally adequate for a very comfortable stay. Smooth travel, aside from long-ish (5hr) layover on St. Maarten, which seemed pretty typical for most US east coast arrivals. Had time to visit a beach bar and scope the end-of-runway-scene (from a distance…) before our flight to Statia
