Comments While Undercurrents pans St. Maarten as a dive site, we found that the coral was reasonably good and the dives were fairly interesting (although not more that 70 feet). Although the sea was moderately rough (enough to cause some on the boat to be seasick and to result in fairly rough return to the boat), the coral was in good shape and there were a number of smaller fish species. We saw a large sting ray at the end of one dive. As for Dive Mania, we had around 15 persons on the boat, and the divemasters (3) did not seem to worry about what we did. That's OK for divers with experience, but no so good for the beginners we had with us. They sped ahead of the group and lost visual contact often. They also seemed to be not particularly careful of the coral or the sea life. We decided not to dive with them a second time. We had two well-kept rooms at the Pelican Resort - very comfortable, roomy, and well equipped. However, the people who dealt with the public were not friendly and seemed to be put upon to have to wait on us. Friendly island, my a--.
