Comments St. Vincent bills itself as the "critter capital" of the Caribbean. There are lots of critters there, but you will need lots of time and/or very good guides to see many. Anyone who has done critter diving in the Pacific will find this massively disappointing. Critters in the Pacific are generally large and out in the open. The critters in St. Vincent are small and in hiding. In four dives we saw exactly one -- a seahorse. To find critters you have to turn over countless rocks and bits of debris. A local diver told me he turns over an average of 100 rocks on a dive and finds two or three critters. Our dive guides made a few perfunctory efforts to look under things but most of the time just drifted along with us. There is heavy fishing around St. Vincent so few fish. Young Island is convenient to Dive St. Vincent, but look elsewhere for accommodation. Young Island is expensive, run down, has poor service and is currently for sale.
