Comments Actually did two liveaboards. The first was booked in Phuket with Sunrise Diving (an agent/shop). This was the South Siam 4 boat. Very nice rooms with common bathrooms. This required some planning to use as there were about 20 divers on board. This boat operates in the Similan Islands and can be accessed by speedboat from shore on certain days of itinerary. Did 3 days diving (4 dives/day)and 2 nights on board. Very good buffet meals 3 times/day.
Second boat was Mermaid II and this is more upscale. Maximum divers is 18. We had only 12 (due to civil strife in Bangkok). There are 8 luxury cabins with 2 bunks each as well as private bathroom and AC. I had a cabin to myself due to low number of divers. This cruise was 3 nights and 2 days diving.Got aboard at 6PM for overnight trip to islands about 70 mi. south of Phuket.Great food (buffet), water, soda, beer available 24/7.Great staff, very good briefings.
Diving on both boats was great with very colorful reefs and huge numbers of fish. Saw many Zebra Sharks, 1 Guitar Shark, many Morays of several species, several species of barracuda, and at least 12 species of butterflyfish. These south islands have beautiful beaches and protected coves and geat scenery for photography !
